Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has delivered brilliantly in the FA Cup final once again to give Arsenal the trophy. This also earns them a place in next season’s Europa League despite finishing 8th in the Premiership.
The deadlock was broken as early as the 5th minute when a brilliant pass from Olivier Giroud was sleekly finished by Pulisic putting Chelsea in the driving seat.
Arsenal nearly had an equalizer in the 20th minute when a Nicolas Pepe goal was flagged offside.
In the 26th minute, however, Arsenal had a penalty after Azpilicueta dragged down Aubameyang. The latter stood up to take the kick himself and coolly converted; 1-1!
The night, match and glory was never to be Chelsea’s as they were plagued with injuries. First it was Azpilicueta in the 31st minute to be subbed after suffering an apparent hamstring injury.
Then in the second half, Chelsea’s best man of the night, Pulisic, was replaced by Pedro after he suffered a leg injury.
Then in the 67th minute, a quick dash-away from Bellerin found Pepe who laid it off to Aubameyang. Auba danced pass Zouma and and floated a sweet finish over the diving Caballero. The resulting 2-1 scoreline was how it all was to end.
As if Chelsea’s night wasn’t bad already, the sending off of Kovacic after he received his second yellow card and a late injury to Pedro saw Chelsea having not just lost the cup final, but left with injury blows for their upcoming Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
