NTC’s Registrar Dr. Christian Addai Poku estimates that 30% of Ghanaian teachers are unqualified to teach in our schools.

When asked about a plan for unqualified teachers, he stated his group is working with the Private Schools Council to develop one.

Some materials that we admit into our Teacher Training Institutions do not meet our standards, therefore it is preferable to get this straight from the outset,” Dr Poku said.

Accra’s Ministry of Education’s National Teaching Council (NTC) director confirmed a partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) (GES).

As part of its attempts to ensure that all teachers in the country are licensed, the National Teaching Council (NTC) intends to train 2,000 unlicensed private school instructors, Mr Addia Poku stated.

“We are going to train over 1,000 private school teachers on how to properly teach reading and numeracy,” Dr. Christian Addia Poku declared at the time.”

It will be used to train new teachers in best practices for teaching literacy and numeracy, as well as in professional behavior and ethics.

As the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, Dr. Addai Poku is aware of the challenges faced by many inexperienced educators in the classroom.
