The communications officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Sammy Gyamfi has been dog walked by Ghanaian tweeps after he posted a cartoon image entitled entitled “choking the voter” which alluded the death of George Floyd, an African who was killed by a cops in Minneapolis on his twitter page.

In the photo, the president is seen kneeling on the leg of a handcuffed man who is telling him he can’t breathe. The president in response to the man also said that he had eased restrictions. The chairperson of the electoral commission, Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa is also seen kneeling on a book on the neck of the handcuffed man as well.

This turned the faces of most Ghanaian tweeps red with rage as they descended on him. Most of them described his actions as groundless, impolite, insensitive and a public display of stupidity. Sarkodie abd Joey B asked him to retract his words and pull down the tweet.

Nonetheless, in his defence he said that, his post is a disapproval of the the EC and NPP’s idea of a new voter’s register and not a mockery of George Floyd’s death or for political gain.

Sammy Gyamfi writes…

“This cartoon doesn’t mock the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd or seek to exploit same for political capital in any way.

Floyd was choked to death, while screaming for breathe.
In GH today, the Jean Mensah-led EC is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register. The potential victims of this grave injustice, are screaming for breathe. They are screaming for their inalienable right to vote.

Nothing wrong with sharing a cartoon which draws a parallel between the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd, and the evil attempt by the GH EC to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register.‬

Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere. This is a serious matter, not a joke.”

We could tell from his post on his facebook page that the rabble-rouser politician has no intentions of pulling down his tweet.
