It seems that the club are serious about their huge revamp of the squad in the ongoing summer transfer window. According to the latest reports, Barcelona have a replacement for Luis Suárez ready, with an alternative on the table too.
The Uruguayan has come to the end of his Azulgrana cycle after years of exceptional service but now is the time to go. However, with the player wanting to stay and still having a year on his contract, the club may have to terminate it and buy him out.
Needless to say, it wouldn’t exactly be a farewell fitting of a club legend. But at this point, they feel it’s necessary and Barcelona have a replacement for Suárez all lined up.
Of course, that part of the story is not exactly fresh either. Inter’s Lautaro Martínez is the chosen one but he won’t arrive until the Uruguayan is gone. For that reason, Barcelona are in a hurry.
Still, negotiating with the Nerazzurri won’t be easy and they are bound to demand a lot of money. Because of that, Olympique Lyon’s Memphis Depay is the Catalans’ plan B in case Lautaro cannot be acquired.
The last proposal that Barça made was back in June when they had offered €70m and Junior Firpo to reach the €111m demanded by the Italians.
All of it, however, will depend on Suárez first leaving the club as he is not in Ronald Koeman’s plans.
And as things currently stand, this won’t really be a beautiful goodbye.
