Social media influencer, producer, presenter, and writer at Diaspora Network Television, who is popularly known on twitter as KwabenaGyam, has given a detailed explanation of a picture of a partially naked man with a cock in his mouth and pot in his hand.
This picture which was taken at the late president, Jerry John Rawlings’ funeral has been circulating on social media for close to 12 hours now.
Earlier today, Base Africa TV and Pulse Ghana posted the picture on their social media with the caption, “iconic” and “caption this” respectively.
He quoted Pulse Ghana’s tweet with this reply,
“In Asante culture, when a prominent person or royal dies, this is commonly seen. A cock is an important animal..its cry wakes us up in the morning. Despite its importance and majesty, it’s powerless in the jaws of death. The cock signifies man, and the man signifies death.
This is to remind us that we’re just mere mortals No matter our importance, power, & significance in society, we cannot escape death.
Reminds me of the Akan saying : nipa bɛgyee ne din, w’ammɛ pre nyinkyerɛ which means a man was born to seek the glory of his name, not along life.”
He further added that, it is a scary sight and that the first he saw some at the Manhyia palace, he almost took to his heels.
