OMICRON VIRUS RECORDED IN GHANA

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has recorded its first cases of the Omicron variant of (Covid-19).

Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye, the Director General of the Ghana Health Service made a confirmation in Accra on Wednesday December 1.

” There is an emergence of the new variant, and I must say, through the robust testing at the Kotoka International Airport, Ghana has already detected the new variant and these cases are mainly from Nigeria and South Africa. The very first case was detected during our sequencing on the 21st of November,” Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye stated.

According to GHS the Omicron variant has not been detected in communities yet but Dr Aboagye has mentioned the high possibility of if its spread in communities.

he also said if the variant is in an incubating stage it cannot be detected by the machine a the airport.
