This article is designed to help you develop the needed fighting spirit to pursue your goals and become a doer of your words.

Much of our happiness come from what we are able to accomplishment. For instance, if you learn how to save money and you keep at it for a whole year, then you can buy that new phone you always dreamed of. What if you quit after a couple of months? Then, you’ll never feel accomplished or satisfied. This is true with other aspects of life, anything that involves practice and takes time. Like learning to code, starting a new business or even regular exercise.

If you are to be highly successful at sticking with a goal until it’s done, there are certain tendencies we all have to learn to overcome.

WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS

Take a look at little children. They cannot concentrate fully on one particular thing. They easily lose interest in one toy and want to do something else the next moment. The power to concentrate develops later in life. As we grow, we to learn to concentrate in order to get the best out of our short lives.

To concentrate means to overcome something else. That is impatience. An impatient person often does things in a rush. They usually get involved in something because others are doing same or because they want quick results. Take another look at children. They always want everything NOW! But how do good parents manage this? Good parents don’t always give their kids whatever they demand. They know that kids will quit after a few unsuccessful attempts. Sadly, many people grow old without growing out of this childish trait. They are impatient and easily give up after a few attempts.

Do you see the lesson? In order to finish what we start we need to learn to concentrate on our goal and be patient because we were not born with these qualities! After all, most important things in life takes time, and they are definitely worth waiting for.

However, because doing this can be really hard, always make sure the goal you are pursuing is worthwhile.

DON’T BE A QUITTER

Always make sure what you want to pursue is worth it. Plan clearly on how you want to accomplish it. This is very important. There will be challenges, but with a good plan you can overcome some, if not all. But what if you find out what you sought out to do is harder than you thought?

This kind of scenario reveals what you are really made of. Are you made of iron or clay? Allowing hard times to rob you of your strength will discourage you. Rather, see every hard time as a challenge. Put in extra effort when things get hard. Sometimes, overcoming these challenges is what will change your life forever. And remember that whenever you face a challenge and relentlessly overcome it, you grow in confidence and resourcefulness.

Resolve never to quit on your goals just because they are challenging. Those who quit upon facing a challenge end up developing the tendency of throwing in the towel all the time. Remember that none of us was born with this fighting spirit. So, endeavor to develop the “iron” version of yourself and hunt down your dreams! This will earn you the confidence and respect of others too.

PERSEVERANCE

The backbone of perseverance is purpose. Attach a good reason to your goals and they will edge you on to success. How do you do that? Ask yourself why you want to do what you want to do. If the reason is to make a living, support your family, secure your future finances, to please God, to help your community, etc., then you’ll have the needed motivation to persevere in hard times.

Perseverance is very rewarding. Prove yourself to be one who sees things through to the finish. You could own that business you always dreamed of. You could buy that item you always wanted to save for. You could establish that side hustle you always wanted. You could get that grade you desperately need. And above all you could be happy. So, persevere!

Note, however, that not all things deserve the fight. Some pursuits are simply unattainable or not in line with your purpose. If you find out this is so, it’s always better to quit without wasting the energy you need for the right pursuits. But how do I know a pursuit is not worth it? When a goal won’t help you achieve the overall purpose, it may not be worth it. Sometimes a goal requires a gifted skill you simply don’t have. Others may cause harm to your loved ones or your society. In these circumstances, the better choice is to quit and realign your acts towards your purpose.

Finally, remember to also get on well with others, get their cooperation and win their trust. This will afford you the much-needed support in hard times. Quitters usually feel others don’t understand the difficulties. They, therefore, unilaterally give up and try a new adventure. Similarly, some new entrepreneurs with huge potential make the mistake of thinking they do not need the help of others. The usual greed of not wanting to share the future reward accounts for this. However, no man is an island. You will need people especially in the hard times. So, get connected now!
