A pit has collapsed in an illegal mining site at Wassa Esikuma in the Western Region and has resulted to the death of ten people.
Reports state that, 7 people sustained various degrees of injuries from the accident.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to Accra based Starr News that the dead bodies were retrieved by an excavator supervised by the security.
Director of NADMO (Prestea Huni Valley Municipality) Mr. Francis Abeiku Yanka has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims involved.
He also urged that mining should be done in the right manner, and all safety protocols should be put in place in order to avert any further disaster.
Injured victims are receiving treatment at the Government Hospital in Tarkwa while the dead bodies have been deposited at the morgue in Tarkwa.
