The final funeral rites for the late Ghanaian military officer and politician who led the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979, and then served two terms as the democratically elected president of Ghana, flt lt Jerry John Rawlings commenced yesterday, 24th January, 2021 with a requiem mass held for him at the Holy Spirit Cathredal and a vigil at the Airforce Officer’s mess.
The president will be laid in state on today, 25th of January, 2021 and Tuesday, 26th of January, 2021 for politicians, heads of state and a reasonable number of people to pay their last respect to him, while the family holds a vigil at the lobby of the conference centre at 3pm.
The Anlo traditional area will hold a vigil at the Anlo traditional area ahead of his final funeral rites.
He will receive a full military burial on Wednesday, 27th January, 2021.
