Social Court 15 in Barcelona has thrown out Neymar’s claims of FC Barcelona owing him 43.6 Euros.
Neymar was signed for a record 222 million Euros from FC Barcelona by PSG in 2017. Ever since, the relationship between the player and his former club has never been cordial. They have both been entangled in law suits and accusing each other of one thing or the other.
Neymar claimed his former employer owed him a whopping 43.6m Euros in the form of unpaid royalty bonus. That matter has finally been ruled. According to the latest court ruling, Neymar’s claims are unfounded. Investigations proved it was Neymar who was rather indebted to FC Barcelona a sum of 6.7m Euros. The court ordered him, accordingly, to pay his former club.
The official statement by FC Barcelona read as follows:
“FC Barcelona expresses its satisfaction with the verdict announced today by Social Court 15 in Barcelona in relation to the lawsuit involving FC Barcelona and the player Neymar Jr regarding the amount of the signing bonus in the final renewal of the player’s contract.
The ruling has fully dismissed the player’s claim for payment of 43.6 million euros, and has accepted a large part of the defence presented by FC Barcelona, as a result of which the player must return 6.7 million euros to the club.
Since the player’s representative is entitled to appeal this decision, the club shall continue to fervently defend its legitimate interests.”
There is ongoing speculation that this is actually a planned move between player and club. That the player and club have agreed that in order for a transfer back to FC Barcelona to be put on the table he should, on his part, let go of his claims.
A possible transfer of Neymar back to FC Barcelona is rumored to take place next season.
